Beyond Headlines: Getting to Know the Transgender Community

TOGETHER WE WILL LEARN & EQUALITY VIRGINIA PRESENTS

Beyond Headlines: Getting to Know the Transgender Community with Connie Rice

We all have a story, and our stories are enhanced when we are willing to listen to one another. Equality Virginia’s Transgender Advocacy Speakers Bureau presents one of their members to share their personal journey and experiences as a transgender person. Workshop involves an honest and casual Q&A segment.

Connie Rice is a Marine veteran, an avid cyclist, the parent of three sons, and a technical seller for a large computer company. She also happens to be transgender. She lives in Leesburg, VA and works with Equality Virginia to dispel myths about transgender people and to advocate for rights and fair treatment.

This event is free and open to the public

Where Are the Women in Virginia Politics?

Please RSVP here: http://bit.ly/2jxbMzW

Women are underrepresented in Virginia politics—and that needs to change. The Democratic Party of Virginia has an outreach group dedicated to addressing this issue: the Virginia Democratic Women's Caucus. Come learn about the Caucus and the state Party structure, hear the case for why direct participation in the Democratic Party is critical for a Democratic woman considering a run for public office (and her supporters), and share your ideas for improving outreach to Democratic women voters.

TWW will host an open discussion with Jill Caiazzo, the representative to the Board of the Democratic Women's Caucus for the 8th Congressional District (which includes Alexandria City, Arlington County, Falls Church City, and portions of the Fairfax Districts of Dranesville, Lee, Mason, Providence, and Mount Vernon).

Remember to RSVP!

Think Pink at Finch

Yesterday, the owner of Finch Knitting + Sewing Studio in Leesburg, VA, was accused of being openly hostile towards her patrons who voted for President Trump and being an anti-election establishment. These accusations are untrue. Finch is a place for EVERYONE, regardless of who they voted for.

If you are able, come "Think Pink" at Finch this Saturday to show your support at this lovely LYS. And yes, they have pink yarn! Come for a couple of hours or stay the entire time, their knit lounge is a cozy space to work on your projects.

Remember how we said to hang on to your hats? Wear them to this. Wear them to any place in your community that is going through something similar. Be vigilant, be ready. Stand up and show up, your pussyhat hat symbolizes that.

All are welcome to this event!
